As entrepreneurs, we receive some really great rewards. We also face some mighty challenges. Sometimes it is personal ~ self-esteem – who am I to be doing this? We also can be challenged with ~ am I worth the price I charge (disguised as “who will pay this much?”). Another personal challenge is to just keep going. When things don’t go as you’d like them to, a system goes down or a team member quits. We face all kinds of struggle.
Have you seen the TV show Gold Rush? I don’t watch a lot TV, but this “reality” show really caught my eye. They face all kinds of challenges. Some are life threatening, some are personal issues. They always have the option to quit and go home to their loved ones. A rare few do, but most of them don’t. They stay on. They are committed – even when it seems foolish to be so, they stay in it – give it their all.
Our businesses are a great parallel to Gold Rush. Where do you quit in your business? What are your excuses? We all have them. The biggest excuse I’ve heard is: “I just want to _____ (coach, speak etc.). I don’t want to deal with all these techie things.” This is a huge in the service based industries. I also hear, “I only want to provide my service – I’d do it for free if I could.” This is a great excuse to not show up as the leader (CEO) of your business. Businesses are in business to make a profit. If not, it’s a hobby. Some of you have very expensive hobbies.
I’ll leave you with this question to ponder: What are you avoiding in your business? Now that you know, go do it! It might be the one thing your business needs to survive.
