Ok, so in the world of being an entrepreneur, we are constantly working on self-growth. Each time, I think I’ve grown to a new level, something happens that shows me that there is always more work to be done – I am an on-going project. LOL
Last week, I attended Be the Change Event with Suzanne Evans; which was really great. I laughed, I cried and I learned a lot. But my biggest learning opportunity was on the last day at lunch. A couple ladies were going around our table introducing themselves. When they got to me, I introduced myself to them. One of them looked at my tag and said, but your tag says Valerie, not Val. Are you THE Val Bullerman? I was really taken aback. (The first thought was “who me?”) I said yes, I think I am, with a smile. They said wow, could we get our picture taken with you? I said of course.
They explained that they were from Holland and attended an event of a couple of my favorite clients, Stijn and Rogier. They heard about me from them. So when they met me, they recognized my name. How fun!
So, here’s the lesson for me. Even though I’ve won awards, taught classes, held events, spoke to hundreds of entrepreneurs, and been praised by some incredible people; AND when they said, are you THE Val Bullerman, all of a sudden, all of my accomplishments fell out of my brain and I was just a mom from Iowa. How interesting for me to want to play small in that moment.
This experience was one of the nicest compliments that I’ve received, so thank you ladies! And, what a great opportunity for me to look inside to see where I was playing small or thinking small.
I AM THE Val Bullerman and darn proud of it! Are you ready to step into being THE (insert your name)? If so, what will you do differently? It’s not about pride or being important. It’s about being a shining light for others so they have permission to shine theirs. That has been and continues to be my learning lesson. Now, go shine your light!!
