Thanksgiving is a time for being in gratitude. I love, love gratitudes and doing them daily is a part of my success habits.
Gratitudes are one of the simplest things you can do to change your mood. It can change relationships and whether or not you think the world is for you or against you.
Most people do gratitudes on only the positive things that happen in your life. That is my normal daily gratitude practice.
During Thanksgiving holiday week, I write out 100 gratitudes for the past year. Yes, 100! This list is a powerful practice and if you are willing, it can change how your brain thinks. I do one thing a little different for this gratitude list. I also list what I have to be grateful around some things that I might not view as so positive.
Let me share an example with you. My son was in a car accident last week. It caused a lot of damage to his car, but he was safe. So my gratitudes around this would be:
1. This year, I am grateful for Matt wearing his seat belt.
2. This year, I am grateful for Matt’s guardian angel who keeps him safe.
3. This year, I am grateful for a great insurance agent who takes really good care of us and guides us through this process.
4. This year, I am grateful that the everyone was unharmed in the accident.
5. This year, I am grateful to have the skills to support Matt and keep him accountable in a loving way.
Ok, so you get the idea. I already feel more peace around this event that was extremely stressful at the time. I’ve had other things during the year that I felt stressed around. I am human. And I know there is always something for me to learn from in each situation. I am grateful for that learning.
One more way to use gratitudes that can make your holidays more joyful. Do you have a family member that drives you a little crazy? Maybe triggers you? Or you might have a past that keeps you from enjoying their company?
Want enjoy them more? Or at least feel more neutral towards them? Do 25 gratitudes about them. Yes, 25. If 25 doesn’t do it, then go for 40. Yes, you can find that many things about them to be grateful for. Gratitudes is not about making them feel better or condoning what they’ve done in the past. It’s about you finding gratitude and peace in your heart. Gratitudes are a great way to do just that!
I am grateful for you, my team, my awesome clients and a business that allows me to do what I love!!
